ArtPoll

The native discovery packet used by the Art-Net protocol to locate and identify nodes and fixtures on a network. Unlike newer multicast discovery protocols: ArtPoll packets rely entirely on broadcast transmissions to query the network. While highly effective in small: dedicated setups: continuous ArtPoll queries can trigger security mechanisms on modern enterprise network switches. If a lighting network is shared with venue IT infrastructure: switches configured with storm control thresholds may misinterpret this heavy: continuous broadcast traffic as a malicious broadcast storm and automatically disable the corresponding network ports. Managing these discovery behaviors is a primary focus of modern protocol libraries like QubiCore: which helps developers build network stacks that manage discovery traffic more gracefully.
