A Rig is one venue or one show. Everything QubiSet finds and stores (devices, groups, Rig Sets, alerts, history) belongs to the Rig you have open. Nothing is shown until a Rig is open, so creating one is always the first step. Why one Rig per venue helps is explained under "One Rig per venue" below.

Plan: Free is enough. Free keeps one saved Rig with one Rig Set and includes up to 4 universes. Your computer is connected to the lighting network. You have a QubiSet account. No hardware at hand? Try the Demo Rig first; it needs no account.

Sign in. Start QubiSet and sign in with your account. You land on "Select a Rig", which shows the account you are logged in as and your plan under "Tier". The first time, "New to QubiSet?" offers a short tutorial in a simulated venue: press "Start tutorial", or "Not now" to go on. The tutorials stay available in Settings, General, "Tutorials". Decide about diagnostics. The first time, "Help improve QubiSet" asks whether diagnostic data may be shared. Choose "Allow", "Decline" or "Not now". You can change this later in Settings, Logs, "Share diagnostic data". Create a Rig. Press "New Rig", type a name (for example the venue), and press "Create and start". A Rig covers every universe on your network, so there is nothing else to choose. Watch devices appear. QubiSet opens the Network page and shows "Discovering...". Devices appear as they are found. The first sweep takes about a minute. Check the network interface if nothing shows up. Open Settings, Network, and look at "Network Interfaces". Switch "Enabled" on for the interface that is connected to your lighting network. Choose the protocols. In the same place, under "Protocols", set ART-NET, RDM, LLRP, NETRON and Sig-Net to "Active", "Passive" or "Disabled". Passive means QubiSet only talks when you ask it to. Look around. The top bar has Network, Devices, Rig Sets, Dashboards and DMX. The bell opens alerts. Settings is at the right. On the Free plan the top bar also shows "Explore", which shows what a plan unlocks. Come back later. Next time, "Select a Rig" offers "Continue with" your last Rig. When you press "Continue", or "Load" under "Load Rig", QubiSet asks "Open" plus the name of the Rig, because the devices it finds from then on are saved to it. Press "Open" plus the Rig name to go on. At a different location, press "Choose another Rig" and pick or create the Rig for that location. Tick "Don't ask again" to stop the question; Settings, Rig, "Ask before opening a Rig" turns it back on. To skip this screen and open your last Rig straight away, turn on Settings, Rig, "Skip the startup screen"; QubiSet then opens it without asking. To switch, use Settings, Rig, "Change Rig". To sign in with a different account, press "Sign Out" at the bottom of "Select a Rig"; QubiSet restarts and shows the sign-in screen.

A Rig keeps its own devices and their history, its groups, its Rig Sets and its alert rules. Use one Rig for each venue or setup you look after, so their devices never mix. Dashboards are the same in every Rig. Devices the Rig remembers. When you open a Rig, every device it has seen before is listed on Network and Devices straight away and marked "Offline" until it answers again. Hover over "Offline", or select the device, to read "Seen in this Rig before. Not on the network now.". This is what lets QubiSet alert you when a device is missing and keep its groups and history. At another venue. Open that venue's Rig, or create one with "New Rig", so the devices of the last venue are not listed as "Offline". When QubiSet asks whether to open the last venue's Rig, press "Choose another Rig". The Free plan keeps one saved Rig; to start fresh in it, make it forget its devices (see below). Switching Rigs. Settings, Rig, "Change Rig" closes the Rig and takes you to "Select a Rig". "Continue" opens the Rig shown under "Continue with". With two or more saved Rigs, "Load Rig" lists them all. Forgetting remembered devices. Press "Faster Discovery" on Network or Devices, switch on "Clear the detected devices" and press "Run Faster Discovery". Devices that are on the network come back as they answer, with their groups and history. Rig Sets stay too. Settings, Rig, "Reset the Rig" also deletes the Rig's groups, Rig Sets, alert rules and history. Other Rigs are not affected by either.

Devices are marked "Offline" right after opening a Rig. The Rig has seen them before and they have not answered yet. If they belong to another venue, open or create the Rig for this venue, or make the Rig forget them. See "One Rig per venue" above. "Discovering..." stays and no device appears. The wrong network interface is enabled, or your computer is in a different IP range than the devices. Check Settings, Network, "Network Interfaces". "Other controller active on Art-Net" appears. Another console or tool is sending on the network. This is information, not an error. "Demo Rig · unavailable". From "Select a Rig", the Demo Rig needs a signed-in account with a verified email address. Without an account, press "Try the demo" on the sign-in screen instead.

Sign in, create a Rig with "New Rig", and QubiSet starts looking for Art-Net, sACN and RDM devices on your network straight away.

How do I get started with QubiSet?

The Demo Rig is a complete simulated venue: nodes, fixtures, DMX traffic, alerts, a dashboard and three ready-made Rig Sets. All features of all plans are unlocked in it, and no command is sent to devices on your real network. It is the safest place to learn Bulk Edit, Rig Sets or alert rules.

Plan: any, including Free. No account is needed: "Try the demo" on the sign-in screen opens the Demo Rig without one. From "Select a Rig" or Settings, you need to be signed in with an account whose email address is verified.

Open the Demo Rig. On "Select a Rig", press "Demo Rig". If a Rig is already open, go to Settings, Rig, "Demo Mode" and press "Enter Demo Mode". Not signed in? Press "Try the demo" on the sign-in screen. Confirm. Read "Before you switch to Demo Mode" and press "Switch to Demo Mode". "Stay in Live Mode" cancels ("Cancel" on the sign-in screen). "Starting the Demo Rig" shows while the simulated venue starts. Give it a minute. The Network page fills with devices. While the sidebar shows "Discovering...", device counts and Rig Set comparisons are still settling. Wait until it reads "Faster Discovery". Try things. Rename a fixture, change a DMX address, create a group, open a Rig Set. The simulated devices answer like real ones. Start over. Settings, Rig, "Demo Mode", "Reset Demo Data" puts the venue back to its starting state and discards your changes to devices and groups. Rig Sets you saved yourself stay; remove them with "Delete set" if you no longer need them. Leave. Press "Leave demo" in the banner at the top, or Settings, Rig, "Leave Demo Mode". You return to the Rig you had open, to "Select a Rig" if you started the Demo Rig from there, or to the sign-in screen if you came from "Try the demo".

Seven short tutorials walk you through QubiSet in the Demo Rig: "Network and Devices", "Device preview and details", "Alerts and alert rules", "Groups", "Bulk Edit", "Dashboards" and "DMX viewer". Pick one. Open Settings, General, "Tutorials" and press "Start" next to a tutorial. "Tutorial" on Network, Dashboards and DMX, in the Alert Center and in a device's panel starts the tutorial for that part. The first time you sign in, "Select a Rig" offers one under "New to QubiSet?". Switch to the Demo Rig. If a Rig of your own is open, QubiSet asks first; press "Switch to Demo Mode". Your Rig comes back when you leave the Demo Rig. Follow the steps. Each step points at a control. Where a step asks you to do something, do it yourself or press "Show me". "Next" and "Back" move on and back, "End tutorial" stops. The last step has "Finish", and "Next tutorial" where another one follows. A finished tutorial is marked "Done" in the list, and "Start again" runs it once more.

Features that are not part of your plan show a small lock, for example "Add Group" and "Bulk Edit" on Free. You can still try them: Click the locked feature. A window explains what the feature does and which plans include it. Press "Test in demo rig". QubiSet switches to the Demo Rig straight away and opens the feature there. Monitoring of your own Rig pauses while you are in the Demo Rig; your saved Rig is not changed. "See plans" shows the plans instead, "Back" closes the window. Follow the hint. A line at the top tells you what to try, for example "Try it: press Add Group, pick a few devices and save. Nothing here touches your real Rig." Go back. Press "Leave demo". You return to your own Rig.

About 140 devices: Art-Net and sACN nodes with RDM fixtures behind them, in four groups. Three Rig Sets to compare with: "Mixed Patch – Two Changes", "Stage Subset – Many Changes" and "Full Venue + Touring Rig". A dashboard called "Venue Overview". Two alert rules that are already triggered, so the bell shows active alerts.

"Demo Rig · unavailable", or no "Test in demo rig" button. Sign in and verify your email address, or sign out and use "Try the demo" on the sign-in screen. A few features cannot be tried in the Demo Rig yet; the window says so. "Other controller active on Art-Net". Expected. The demo venue contains a lighting console that sends DMX. Counts look wrong right after entering. Discovery is not finished. Wait for "Faster Discovery" in the sidebar. "Demo mode has ended". The simulated venue stopped. Press "Try again". "Another program is using this network address" right after leaving the Demo Rig, also at the end of a tutorial. It means the Demo Rig itself, which is still shutting down. Press "I understand, continue anyway". Nothing else is affected. A device says its firmware is not supported. One demo node is set up that way on purpose. The Demo Rig offers no firmware update. For a real NETRON node, see "Update the firmware of a NETRON device" in Find a device and change its settings.

Open the Demo Rig: a simulated theatre with about 140 devices where every feature of every plan works and nothing reaches your real network.

How can I try QubiSet without any lighting hardware?

Every node and fixture QubiSet finds can be looked up, made to identify itself in the rig, and configured from your desk: DMX start address, DMX mode, name, and for nodes the IP settings and ports.

Plan: Free. On Free, sensor history covers the last 5 minutes. A Rig is open and the device has been discovered. Fixtures need RDM, and the node they hang on must pass RDM through.

Open the device list. Go to Devices. "Table" lists everything, "By network position" lists devices under the node and port they are connected to. Search. Type a name, model or address into "Quick Search". You can also filter by "Universe", "DMX Address", "IP Address", "Device Type" and "Protocol". "Columns" chooses what the table shows. Select the device. Click its row. A panel opens on the right with name, model, manufacturer, universe, DMX address and DMX mode. Find it in the rig. Switch on "Identify" in the panel, or in the "Identify" column of the table. The fixture flashes or shows its identify state. Switch it off again when you have found it. Open the full page. Press "Full Device Info" at the bottom of the panel. "Device Configuration" opens with a menu on the left. Change the DMX address or mode. Choose "DMX", type the new "Start Address" or pick a "DMX Mode", then press "Save". "DMX address updated successfully" confirms it. The pencil next to "DMX Address" in the panel takes you straight here. Rename it. Choose "Device Settings", type the new name into "RDM Device Label" and press "Save". "RDM device label updated successfully" confirms it. This name is stored in the fixture. Check sensors and history. "Sensors" shows temperatures and other readings with a timeline. "Logs" lists what happened to this device and when. Go back. The arrow at the top left returns to the list.

A node has more in its menu: "IP Settings" for address mode, IP address and subnet mask, plus ports and, for NETRON devices, "Presets", "Cues", "Inputs", "System" and, outside the Demo Rig, "Firmware Update". "Web Interface" at the top right opens the device's own web page. "Reboot" under "Quick Actions" restarts the device.

Open the page. On the device page of the NETRON node, choose "Firmware Update". "Device Information" shows the installed "Firmware" and "Web" versions. If QubiSet carries a newer version, it is shown in brackets next to the installed one. Update. Under "Software Update", press "Update" and confirm with "Start". QubiSet installs the newest firmware it carries for this model. The device is not available while it updates and restarts. If only the web interface is behind, the button reads "Web update". "Up to date" means there is nothing newer. Or use your own file. "Select Firmware File (.nfw)" and "Select Web Interface File (.img)" send a file you downloaded from NETRON. The upload starts as soon as you have chosen the file. A NETRON node with firmware older than 3.x shows "This device is running firmware ..., which is not supported." on its page. Press "Update firmware" there to open "Firmware Update". The Demo Rig offers no firmware update, because its simulated devices cannot change their firmware.

The device is not in the list. Press "Faster Discovery" in the sidebar and check that its protocol is not set to "Disabled" in Settings, Network. A red subnet mask with a warning sign. The device's subnet mask does not match your network interface. It may be reachable only partly until you correct it. "This device is running firmware ..., which is not supported". QubiSet can show the device but not manage it until its firmware is updated. For a NETRON node, press "Update firmware" (see "Update the firmware of a NETRON device" above). There is no pencil next to a value. The device does not allow that value to be changed remotely. You are viewing a Rig Set. If the banner shows a Set name, press "Leave Set view" first to see live devices.

Search for the device on the Devices page, click it, switch on "Identify" to make it flash, and use "Full Device Info" to change its DMX address, mode, name or IP settings.

How do I find a device, identify it and change its settings?

A Rig Set is a saved copy of your device setup inside a Rig: device names, DMX addresses, DMX modes and where each device is connected. Save one when the rig is right. After a changeover, a hire fixture swap or an accident, QubiSet shows exactly what differs and puts it back. Looking at a Set never changes a device.

Plan: Free keeps one Rig Set per Rig, Freelance 10, Freelance Pro and Venue as many as you need. The Create Set page shows how many your Rig holds. A Rig is open and discovery has finished (the sidebar no longer shows "Discovering...").

Save one. Go to Rig Sets. Under "From the live devices" press "Create set from live devices", type a "Set name" and press "Create set". Nothing on the devices changes. If some devices are offline at that moment, you can tick "Also save ... offline device with their last known settings". Look at what is in it. The Set appears under "Device captures" in the sidebar and opens on "Saved content". The line below the tabs tells you how many devices were captured. Switch between "Network" and "Devices" to see them as a drawing or as a table. Change something on the rig. For example give a fixture a new DMX start address on the Devices page. See the difference. Back in Rig Sets, open the Set and go to "Compare and apply". Tiles at the top count what QubiSet found, for example "3 changes can be applied". Click a tile to jump to that part of the list. "Changes to apply" shows each device with its live value and the saved value, for example "DMX address 11 → 111". Put it back. Untick anything you want to leave alone. The box next to "... of ... changes selected" ticks or clears everything at once. Then press "Apply ... changes to ... devices". The changes are sent at once, without a further question. Wait for confirmation. "Changes applied" lists each setting, first as "Sent, waiting for the device", then as "Confirmed by the device". Wait for "The devices report all applied settings.", or press "Compare again". See it on the main screens. Press "View in Network" or "View in Devices" next to the Set title. A banner shows the Set name and "Just the Set". The selector at the top of the sidebar now shows the Set. Compare on the main screens. Open the selector and choose "Compare to Live" under "Show". The banner changes to "Compared to Live" and devices are marked "Differs from Set", "Not in Set" or "Missing". Click a device marked "Differs from Set": its panel shows "Differs from the Set" with the saved and the live value of each setting, and a "Compare and apply" button that takes you back to the Set. Go back to normal. Press "Leave Set view" in the banner, or pick "Live" in the selector. Housekeeping. The pencil next to the title renames the Set and lets you give it your own two-letter mark; finish with "Save name". "Replace saved capture" overwrites the Set with the current live devices. "Delete set" removes it. Both ask before they act, and neither changes a device.

Changes to apply. Settings QubiSet can write back. Only ticked ones are sent. Differences that will not be applied. Things that differ but cannot be written, with the reason. Saved in this set, but not live now. Saved devices that are not on the network at the moment. If QubiSet recognises a replacement fixture, it offers "Identify" and "Use this device". Live now, but not saved in this set. Devices on the network the Set knows nothing about. They are left as they are. Devices without changes. Everything that already matches. "... port with a different device order". QubiSet lists the fixtures on a node port in an order, the one you see on the Network page. On this port they are listed differently than when the Set was saved. Where QubiSet can put the list back, "Changes to apply" offers "Restore the saved device order on ... port". This changes the list, not how the fixtures are cabled. "Show identifiers" adds RDM UIDs and addresses to the list, which helps when several fixtures share a name.

"Comparing live devices…" takes long, or the numbers look too low. Discovery is still running. Wait until the sidebar shows "Faster Discovery", then press "Compare again". No "changes can be applied" tile. The live devices already match the Set in everything that can be written. The main screens look unfamiliar, or the Set banner is still there. You are still viewing a Set. Press "Leave Set view". "Create set from live devices" shows a lock. The Rig already holds the Rig Sets your plan includes. Your saved Sets keep working. Delete a Set you no longer need, or press the button to see which plans keep more, and "Test in demo rig" to try it in the Demo Rig. A Set shows the label "MVR plan" and a tab "Set up the rig". It was imported from an MVR file and works differently. See the MVR guide below.

A Rig Set stores the names, DMX addresses and modes of all devices; "Compare and apply" shows what has changed since and writes back only the changes you tick.

How do I save my rig's device settings and restore them later with Rig Sets?

MVR files carry a fixture plan out of lighting design and visualisation software. QubiSet reads the plan, pairs each planned fixture with a real device on your network, and sets the DMX mode and start address from the plan. Device names can be set from the plan as well. At the end you save the finished rig as a normal Rig Set. MVR import is marked "Experimental".

Plan: Free keeps one Rig Set per Rig, and the imported plan is one. To save the rig as built in step 9 on Free, delete the plan Set after step 8 first. Freelance keeps 10 per Rig, Freelance Pro and Venue as many as you need. An .mvr file exported from your planning software. A Rig is open, the fixtures are connected and discovered, and they answer RDM.

Choose the file. Go to Rig Sets. Under "From an MVR file" press "Choose an MVR file to import" and pick the file. Check the preview. "Import preview" lists the planned fixtures in a table with "ID", "Fixture", "Mode" and "Universe.Address", for example "13.33" for universe 13, address 33. Adjust the "Set name" if you like and press "Create set from MVR". "Cancel import" stops here. Find your way around. The plan appears under "MVR plans" in the sidebar, is marked "MVR plan", and opens on "Set up the rig". Four numbered steps run across the top: "Pair fixtures", "Check pairings", "Apply to devices" and "Save as built". Nothing has been sent to any device yet. Pair fixtures. QubiSet pairs each planned fixture with a live device of the same model. Tiles show the result, for example "8 fixtures matched" and "3 fixtures need a choice". Click a tile to jump to that list. "Match again" repeats the pairing after you changed something in the rig. Answer "Needs a choice". Here several live devices of the same model could be the planned fixtures. How you choose depends on how many there are: Several fixtures of the same type on one universe are put in order together under "Put these fixtures in order". The left column, "Live devices, in your order", lists the devices; the right column, "Plan, by DMX address", shows which planned fixture each one is paired with. Switch on "Identify while stepping", step through the devices with the Up and Down keys or by clicking them, and watch which fixture lights up. Press "Place as number ..." to put the highlighted device in the next place, so that the list matches where the fixtures hang. "Set as first" moves it to the top, "Reset order" starts again, and you can also drag a device to its place. Then press "Pair ... fixtures in this order". If you have not placed every device, QubiSet asks "Pair in the order shown?" first. A single fixture lists its candidates under "Which of these live devices is this fixture?". Switch on "Identify" next to a device and press "This is the fixture" on the one that hangs where the plan puts it. "Pair these fixtures one by one instead" switches a group of fixtures to this way of pairing. When you are done, press "Continue to check pairings". You can also continue with open choices; those fixtures are simply left out. Check pairings. "Matched" lists every planned fixture with its device and why they were paired, for example "Same device label" or "Same universe and address". "Unassign" undoes a pairing. Automatic pairings can shift when addresses or labels change: press "Save these ... pairings" to keep them fixed in the Set. Then press "Continue to apply". Apply to devices. QubiSet lists each device with its current and planned value, for example "DMX address: 21 → 33". Tick "Also set device labels to the fixture IDs from the plan" if the fixtures should be renamed too. Press "Apply changes to ... devices". "Skip and continue without applying" moves on without touching the devices. Wait for "All changes were applied." Then press "Continue to save as built". Save as built. Press "Save as device capture". The Create Set form opens with a name such as "Demo Venue as built"; press "Create set". You now have a normal Rig Set of the finished rig that you can compare with and restore later. If "Create set" shows a lock, the Rig already holds the Rig Sets your plan includes; delete the plan Set or another one you no longer need, then save again.

Pairing does not change devices. Only "Apply changes to ... devices" in step 7 does. "Pair ... fixtures in this order" also keeps the order as the device order of that node port, the order the Network page shows. Universes are not changed. A fixture's universe is decided by the node port it is plugged into. MVR counts universes from 1, Art-Net from 0. "How fixtures are matched" explains this ("MVR universe 1 corresponds to Art-Net universe 0 and sACN universe 1") and the order in which QubiSet looks for a device: a pairing you saved, the same universe and address, the same device label, and last the only device of that model on the planned universe. "Saved content" shows the plan itself: the fixtures are marked "Planned" and the line above reads "... fixtures planned in an imported MVR file". The plan stays in the list under "MVR plans". You can come back to it, and "Back" at the bottom of each step returns to the step before.

"Not found on the network". No discovered device has that model. Check the fixture is powered, connected and answering RDM, then press "Match again". "Fixture type unknown". The plan names a fixture type QubiSet cannot pair with an RDM model. Patch this one by hand. "On the network, not in the plan". Devices the plan does not mention. They are left alone. Many fixtures "need a choice". The plan and the rig share neither addresses nor names yet. Giving the fixtures the labels used in the plan first makes QubiSet pair them by "Same device label". "Choose an MVR file to import" shows a lock. The Rig already holds the Rig Sets your plan includes. Delete a Set you no longer need, or press the button to see which plans keep more. A step shows nothing to apply. The matched devices already have the planned mode and address ("devices already match the plan").

Import the MVR file as a Rig Set and follow the four steps under "Set up the rig": pair the planned fixtures with live devices, check the pairings, apply DMX modes and start addresses, and save the rig as built.

How do I import an MVR file and patch my fixtures from it?

The DMX page answers two questions quickly: which universes are on the network at all, and is a console really sending on this one. A viewer shows the 512 channel values of an Art-Net or sACN universe as they arrive, together with the frame rate.

Plan: Free. A Rig is open. For values to show, something must be sending on that universe.

Open the overview. Go to DMX. "DMX Overview" counts the universes: "Detected", "Live", "Waiting" and "Unmonitored". Read the list. "Detected Universes" shows each universe, where QubiSet knows it from ("Source"), which nodes and RDM devices use it ("Used By") and its "Signal". "Live 512/512" means all 512 channels are arriving. Open a viewer. Press "Open Viewer" in the row. The universe appears in the sidebar and opens. Read the values. Each cell shows the channel number and its current value from 0 to 255. Above the grid you see "Frame rate" and the "Min interval", "Max interval" and "Mean interval" between frames. Narrow it down. Use "Channel range" to show only the channels you care about, and "Cell size" to make the cells larger or smaller. Open a universe that is not listed. Press "Add Viewer". Under "Manual Entry" choose the protocol (Art-Net, sACN, Sig-Net or Sig-Net Preview), type the "Universe" and press "Add". Under "Auto Detected" you can press "Open" on any universe QubiSet has seen. Close a viewer. Press the cross next to the universe in the sidebar. "Overview" takes you back to the list.

"Unmonitored". QubiSet knows the universe from a device's settings but is not watching it. Press "Open Viewer" to start. "Waiting". A viewer is open but no data has arrived. Check that the console is sending and that the universe number matches. Art-Net counts from 0, sACN from 1. A low or jumpy frame rate. Look at "Max interval". Long gaps point to a busy network or a source that sends irregularly. The sidebar is missing. In a narrow window it collapses. Widen the window or use the menu icon.

Open the DMX page and press "Open Viewer" next to a universe to see all 512 channel values live, with frame rate and timing.

How do I see the live DMX values of a universe?

Alert rules watch your rig for you. A rule says what to look for (a device going offline, a sensor value over a limit) and on which devices. When it matches, the bell at the top turns red and counts the active alerts. On paid plans the rule can also send an email or call a webhook.

Plan: Free allows 3 rules of your own and shows alerts in the app. Email and webhook notifications, alert history, notification previews, muting and advanced conditions need Freelance or higher. A Rig is open. Sensor rules need devices that report sensors over RDM.

Open the alerts. Click the bell in the top bar. The list shows active alerts, newest first. Press "See all alerts" to open the Alert Center. The bell is the only way in. Read an active alert. "Active" shows each alert with its severity, what triggered it and which devices are affected. "Jump to device" shows the device on the current screen, "Open device details" opens its page. "Acknowledge" marks the alert as seen. Start a rule. Go to "Rules" and press "New alert rule". Name it and set the severity. Type a "Name" your colleagues will understand, for example "Dimmer room offline", and choose the "Severity". Set the condition. Under "Conditions" the default is "Device status is Offline". Change it to a sensor value if you want a temperature limit. "Add condition" adds another one. Choose the devices. Under "Targets" everything is watched to begin with, including devices added later. Untick groups, nodes or single devices to leave them out. "Select all" and "Deselect all" help. Avoid false alarms. "Trigger delay (seconds)" is how long the condition must last before the alert opens. "Recovery delay (seconds)" is how long it must be gone before the alert closes. Choose how you are told. Under "Notifications" add a webhook destination or tick "Send email for this rule". "Preview notification" shows what will be sent. Save. Press "Save rule". The rule appears in the list with its state: "Normal" or "Triggered", and how many devices are affected. Look back. "History" lists when alerts opened, changed and resolved.

Go to "Setup" in the Alert Center. Email. Press "Authorize email alerts" once. Mails go to your own verified account address. Then tick "Send email for this rule" on each rule that should send one. Webhooks. Press "Add webhook destination" to connect a chat or monitoring service. A destination can be reused by several rules. Heartbeat. "Monitoring heartbeat" sends a regular sign of life to an external monitor, so you also notice when QubiSet itself stops.

Each Rig has its own date and time settings, so a Rig for a venue in another time zone tells you the venue's local time. Emails, webhook messages, "Preview notification" and the "History" list use them. Open Settings, Rig, and go to "Date and time". Choose the "Timezone", the "Date format" and the "Time format". "Example notification time" shows the result. Press "Save date and time". Changes for summer and winter time happen on their own.

The built-in rule "Monitoring unavailable" triggers. QubiSet cannot watch one of your rules at the moment, for example because the needed protocol is disabled. An alert opens and closes all the time. Raise the trigger delay and the recovery delay. No email arrives. Check "Setup": the installation must be authorized, and the rule itself must have email switched on. Too many alerts during a changeover. Use "Mute notifications" at the top of the Alert Center.

Click the bell, open "See all alerts", go to "Rules" and create a rule with "New alert rule"; QubiSet then raises an alert whenever a watched device matches the condition.

How do I get an alert when a device goes offline or runs hot?

A dashboard is a page of widgets that shows the state of your rig at a glance: live DMX of a universe, a temperature curve, how many devices of a group are online, which alert rules are triggered. Put it on a screen in the control room or check it before doors open.

Plan: on Free you see the starter dashboard but cannot change it. Adding widgets, editing and more dashboards need Freelance or higher. A Rig is open.

Open Dashboards. The sidebar lists your dashboards. The selected one fills the page. Add a widget. Press "Add widget". "Select a widget type" groups the choices: Sensors: "Sensor Timeline", "Sensor Value" System: "Alert Overview", "Alert Status", "Device Group Status" DMX: "DMX Viewer", "RDM Device Count" Utilities: "Checklist", "Clock", "Countdown" Content & Actions: "Image", "Quick Links", "Text" Choose and configure. Click a type to see what it does, press "Add widget", fill in its settings (for example which sensor or which universe) and press "Add widget" again. Arrange. Press "Edit Dashboard". Drag widgets to move them and pull their edges to resize. Press "Done" to keep the layout or "Cancel" to drop it. Add another dashboard. Press "Add Dashboard" in the sidebar. A new, empty dashboard is created at once. The pencil under its name renames it, the bin deletes it. Back up or move dashboards. Press "Import / export". "Download backup" saves every dashboard and widget to a file. "Choose JSON file" loads such a file into this Rig.

"Sensor data unavailable". The device has not reported that sensor yet, or sensor polling is set to "On demand". Open the device's "Sensors" page once, or change "Sensor polling" in Settings, Network. "No alert rules selected". Open the widget's settings and choose the rules it should show. A DMX widget shows nothing. Nothing is sending on that universe. Check it on the DMX page. "Edit Dashboard" is locked. Your plan does not include editing.

Open Dashboards, press "Add widget", pick a widget type such as DMX Viewer, Sensor Timeline or Device Group Status, and arrange the widgets with "Edit Dashboard".

How do I build a monitoring dashboard in QubiSet?

A group is a named, coloured selection of devices, for example "Front of house" or "Dimmer room". Click a group and Network and Devices show only its members. Groups are also the quickest way to pick devices for Bulk Edit, alert rules and dashboard widgets. A device can be in several groups.

Plan: Freelance or higher. Groups are not part of Free. You can try them in the Demo Rig on any plan. A Rig is open and you are in the Live view, not viewing a Rig Set.

Start a group. On Network or Devices, press "Add Group" in the sidebar. A bar appears at the top with "0 selected". Pick the devices. Click each device that belongs to the group. Click again to take it out. On the Network page you can also drag a box while holding the right mouse button. "Search" in the bar helps you find devices. Name it. Click "New Group" in the bar and type the group's name. Choose a colour. Click one of the colour dots next to the name. Save. Press the green save button at the right end of the bar. The cross at the left end cancels. Use it. Click the group in the sidebar. Network and Devices now show only its devices, and the number next to the name tells you how many there are. "All Devices" shows everything again. Change it later. Select the group. Three icons appear under its name: the pencil changes name and members, the palette changes the colour, the bin deletes the group after asking. Deleting a group does not touch the devices.

You only see coloured dots and numbers. The sidebar is collapsed. Click the menu icon at its top to open it. The icons for edit, colour and delete are missing. They only show on the group that is selected. Group counts differ from the live rig. You are viewing a Rig Set, and the counts are those of the Set. Press "Leave Set view". "Add Group" shows a lock. Your plan does not include groups. Click it and press "Test in demo rig" to try groups in the Demo Rig.

Press "Add Group" in the sidebar of Network or Devices, click the devices that belong together, give the group a name and colour, and save.

How do I organise devices into groups?

Bulk Edit readdresses a whole run of fixtures in one go: type the first DMX start address and QubiSet lines the fixtures up one after another by their footprint. It also sets the same DMX mode on many fixtures, or gives a row of nodes consecutive IP addresses. You see a preview before anything is sent.

Plan: Freelance or higher. Bulk Edit is not part of Free. You can try it in the Demo Rig on any plan. The devices are discovered and answer RDM (for DMX settings). Tip: save a Rig Set first. Then you can put everything back if the result is not what you wanted.

Open Bulk Edit. Press "Bulk Edit" in the sidebar of Network or Devices. From Devices, QubiSet switches to the Network page. "Device Search" opens. Find the devices. Filter by "Device Type", "Protocol", "Group", "Universe", "DMX Address" or "IP", or type into "Search devices". If a group is selected in the sidebar, only its devices are listed. Select them. Tick each device, or press "Select All". The footer counts "... selected". Start the edit. Press "Bulk Edit" at the bottom. The panel shows "Selection" on the left and three tabs on the right: "DMX Mode", "DMX Start Address" and "IP Address". Clear out what does not fit. If "Incompatible devices" lists some, read the reason and press "Remove all". A tab stays "Blocked" until they are removed. Set the new values. On "DMX Start Address", type the first address into "Start from". "Sequence preview" shows every device with its new address range, for example "DMX 101-112". Apply. Press "Apply to ... devices". A message such as "DMX start address applied to 9 devices." confirms it, "Apply results" lists the new range of each device, and the devices show their new values. Finish. Press "Close".

"Bulk Edit" shows a lock. Your plan does not include it. Click it and press "Test in demo rig" to try it in the Demo Rig. "Unavailable for current selection". At least one selected device cannot take this setting. Check "Incompatible devices". "Source devices cannot be bulk patched". A node is in the selection. Nodes have no DMX start address; remove it. "Only one DMX personality". That fixture has a single mode, so there is nothing to change on the "DMX Mode" tab. The "Start from" range is smaller than 1 to 512. QubiSet leaves room so that the last fixture still fits into the universe. Fixtures on different ports. Addresses are lined up per node port. Select one port's fixtures at a time for a predictable result.

Press "Bulk Edit", tick the devices, choose DMX Mode, DMX Start Address or IP Address, check the preview and press "Apply to ... devices".

How do I change the DMX address, DMX mode or IP address of many devices at once?

Your plan decides which features are unlocked and how much you can use. The plan belongs to your account and is picked up when you sign in.

Open the account settings. Go to Settings, Account. Read "License & Usage". "Plan" is your plan, "License state" tells you whether it is active, and "Universe limit", "Server installations", "Saved Rigs" and "Rig Sets per Rig" show what it allows. For a plan you bought once, "License term" reads "Yours to keep". Refresh after buying. Press "Check for plan updates". A new plan applies the next time you open a Rig. Got a plan code (QUBI-...)? Redeem it on qubicast.com under "My Products" or on the pricing page, then press "Check for plan updates". Quick look. "Select a Rig" also shows your plan under "Tier". Click it to list what the plan includes.

Sign in once on that computer while it is connected to the internet. After that you can sign in there without internet for six months after your last online sign-in, and the computer keeps your plan. A computer that never goes online cannot sign in at all. A license file gives that one computer your plan instead: QubiSet shows "This computer's code", the QubiSet website turns the code into a file, and you import the file. The steps are in Use QubiSet on a computer that never has internet. A license file licenses the computer, not the account, so it stays in place when you sign out or switch accounts.

The plan still shows Free after buying. Press "Check for plan updates", then use Settings, Rig, "Change Rig" and open the Rig again. A feature shows a lock. It is not part of your plan. The "Tier" list on "Select a Rig" shows what is included. A reminder about universes or devices. A banner such as "... universes in use, ... included in your plan." means you use more than your plan includes. QubiSet keeps monitoring everything; please consider a plan that includes more.

Settings, Account, "License & Usage" shows your plan, whether it is active and what it allows; after buying, press "Check for plan updates" and open your Rig again.

Which QubiSet plan do I have, and what does it include?

This page collects what to do when something goes wrong: installing on Windows, fixtures that react to being discovered, how to report a problem, and how to reach us. Below that, "By feature" lists the answers from every guide in one place, so you can search this one page for the message you see on screen.

Windows SmartScreen may stop the installer with a blue "Windows protected your PC" window. The installer is signed, and the window names QubiCast GmbH as the publisher. Windows can still show the warning for a new release until enough people have installed it. QubiSet can be installed as normal. Start the installer. Wait for the SmartScreen window to appear. Show the details. Click "More info" and check that the publisher is QubiCast GmbH. Install anyway. Click "Run anyway". The installer continues as normal.

QubiSet only changes a setting on a fixture when you ask it to. Finding and monitoring devices uses standard RDM read requests, which only ask a device for information. Some fixtures still react to these read requests in ways they should not: they reboot or reset, they drop off the network for a moment, their DMX output is interrupted briefly. This comes from how the fixture's manufacturer has implemented RDM, not from a setting being changed. If you are working on a running show, test with one fixture type at a time before you let QubiSet discover the whole rig.

If a fixture reboots, disconnects or behaves strangely during discovery or monitoring, tell us from inside the app. QubiSet adds the fixture's technical data to the report for you. Open the feedback form. Press the feedback button at the bottom right of QubiSet. Pick the fixture. Select the affected fixture in the network map. Choose the type. Select "Fixture Issue" as the feedback type. Describe what happened. Say what you did and what the fixture did. Send it. Submit the form. Your reports help us build workarounds and keep a list of fixtures that need special handling.

If Windows SmartScreen stops the installer, choose "More info" and then "Run anyway"; for a problem inside QubiSet, look up the feature in the list on this page, and report a fixture that misbehaves with the feedback form in the app.

What can I do when QubiSet does not install or does not behave as expected?

Signing in needs the internet at least once. A show computer on a closed lighting network may never get that. A license file is made for one computer and carries your plan to it on a USB stick. It licenses the computer, not an account, so nobody has to sign in on it. If the computer can go online once, you do not need this: sign in there once, and after that you can sign in without internet for six months.

Plan: Freelance or higher. QubiSet Free does not need a license file. A second device with internet, for example a laptop or a phone, and your QubiSet account. A way to carry a small file to the offline computer, for example a USB stick. Each offline computer uses one of your plan's installations.

Open the license file steps. On the offline computer, start QubiSet. The sign-in screen shows "No internet connection". Press "Use a license file". Note the code. Under "This computer's code" is a code of 17 characters in five groups. Write it down or take a photo. Leave this window open. Open the page on the website. On the device with internet, open qubicast.com/account/library/offline and sign in. You also get there from "My Products": in your QubiSet plan, press "Get a licence file". Enter the code and download. Type the code into "Installation code" and give the computer a name under "Name for this computer", for example "FOH desk". The page tells you until when the file will work. Press "Download licence file". Bring the file over. Copy the downloaded file to the offline computer, for example on a USB stick. Its name ends in ".qubilic". Import it. Back in the window from step 2, press "Import a license file" and choose the file. Continue. The window closes and the sign-in screen shows your plan and how long the file works. Press "Continue with license file". Open a Rig. You land on "Select a Rig" with your plan under "Tier". The next time you start QubiSet on this computer, press "Continue with license file" again.

The website shows the date before you download, and QubiSet shows it after the import. On a plan you pay monthly, the file works until the end of the paid month plus a short reserve. Download a new file after each renewal. On a plan you bought once, or one that runs longer than a year, one file works for a year plus a short reserve. Then download a new one. A new file for the same code does not use another installation. On the "Offline computers" page, press "Download a new file" next to the computer, bring the file over and import it. You can import it under Settings, Account, "License file" as well. A license file cannot be taken back once it is downloaded. The computer keeps its installation until the file runs out, and "Installations" on the website shows that date.

The code and the import are also under Settings, Account, "License file". Use that when a computer signs in with one account but should keep a paid plan when nobody is signed in, or to import a newer file. While the computer has internet, QubiSet asks you to sign in and the sign-in screen does not offer the license file.

There is no "Use a license file" button on the sign-in screen. The computer has internet. Sign in with your account instead. The code is then under Settings, Account, "License file". "This code contains a typing mistake." One character is wrong. Compare the code with the one QubiSet shows. The letter O and the digit 0 are treated the same, as are I, L and 1, and the dashes are optional. "This file was made for a different computer." The code entered on the website belongs to another computer, or QubiSet was reinstalled and has a new code. Download a file for the code this computer shows now. "This file expired". Download a new file with the same code. "This computer's clock is behind." Set the date and time of the offline computer, then import again. "All installations of your plan are in use." Every installation of your plan is taken. In "My Products" on the website, release an installation you no longer use, then download again. A computer with a license file keeps its installation until its file runs out. "Someone is signed in on this computer." QubiSet is in use by an account on that computer. Restart QubiSet, then press "Continue with license file". It still does not work. Email contact@qubicast.com and include this computer's code.

On the offline computer, press "Use a license file" on the sign-in screen and note the code; on a device with internet, enter it at qubicast.com/account/library/offline, download the license file, bring it over and import it.
