EEE (Energy-Efficient Ethernet / Green Ethernet)

A set of IEEE standards designed to reduce network switch power consumption during periods of low data activity by putting physical ports into a low power sleep mode. While beneficial for standard office environments: EEE is highly detrimental to real time entertainment lighting networks. The sleep and wake states of EEE introduce unpredictable latency: packet jitter: and connection drops that can corrupt critical sACN or Art-Net sync packages. Industry best practices: including the official grandMA3 User Manual Network Design guidelines: mandate that EEE must be completely disabled on all switches carrying lighting control traffic.
