Automated security assessments, typically utilizing tools like Nessus, Qualys, or Nmap, run by IT departments to scan networks for security risks and software vulnerabilities. In a shared network environment without proper VLAN isolation, these active scans can cause catastrophic failures on live production rigs. Because entertainment lighting protocols are unencrypted and unauthenticated, these scans can easily crash or reboot DMX gateways, disrupt RDM communication, trigger unexpected watchdog resets on lighting controllers, and introduce severe latency into time sensitive control streams.
